Privacy Policy

Summary

SpeedNotes is a macOS app for quickly creating, opening, and editing markdown notes from a simple sidebar. SpeedNotes is designed to work primarily on-device, so your notes and note locations are intended to stay on your Mac unless you choose to share them.

Data We Collect

By default, SpeedNotes does not collect or transmit personal data.

SpeedNotes may store app preferences locally on your Mac, such as window state, note list preferences, recent files, and the folders or locations you choose to use with the app. This information is used only to provide the app's functionality.

Your Notes and Files

The notes you create or open with SpeedNotes are your content. SpeedNotes is designed to work with markdown files you choose. Those files remain under your control and are stored wherever you save them, such as on your Mac or in a folder you manage.

If you use SpeedNotes with another app or sync service, such as Obsidian, iCloud Drive, Dropbox, Git, or another storage provider, the handling of those files may also be subject to that service's terms and privacy practices.

Data You Provide (Optional)

  • Support communications: If you email support, we receive the information you include in your message, such as your email address, screenshots, and logs you choose to share.
  • Diagnostic information you manually send: If you choose to send troubleshooting details, they may include your macOS version, app version, hardware model, and limited file-path context needed to diagnose the issue.

Automatically Collected Data

SpeedNotes does not include advertising and does not use third-party trackers by default.

Apple analytics and crash reporting: If you choose to share device analytics with Apple and share analytics with app developers where available, Apple may provide the developer with aggregated usage or crash information for SpeedNotes. These reports are controlled by Apple and help improve stability and performance.

Permissions and Why They May Be Needed

SpeedNotes only needs access to files and folders you choose to open, create, or manage. Depending on the features you use, macOS may ask for permission.

  • Files & Folders: Needed to open, create, save, or manage markdown files and folders you choose.
  • Security-scoped file access: Used by macOS sandboxed apps to remember access to files or folders you previously selected.
  • Accessibility or automation: Not required for core functionality. If a future optional feature needs either permission, SpeedNotes will explain why before requesting it.

Network Connections and Third Parties

SpeedNotes may connect to Apple services required for app distribution, licensing, updates, and optional Apple-provided analytics or crash reporting. SpeedNotes does not sell your data.

If SpeedNotes adds optional third-party services in the future, such as analytics, sync, or AI features, this policy and the app's privacy disclosures will be updated before or alongside release.

Data Retention

  • Local settings: Stored on your Mac until you remove the app and related data.
  • Your notes: Stored wherever you save them and retained according to your own file management and any storage provider you use.
  • Support emails: Retained only as long as reasonably needed to respond and maintain support history.

Your Choices

  • You can choose where to save your notes.
  • You can stop using SpeedNotes at any time and remove its local app data from your Mac.
  • You can manage Apple analytics sharing in macOS settings.
  • You can request deletion of support communications you have sent by contacting support.

Security

We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards to protect any information you choose to share with support. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we aim to minimize collection and limit exposure.

Children

SpeedNotes is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
